AND THE NEW MISS PERSIA IS...
*Good morning. I apologize for not posting on Friday. Today, we take a look at one of the most interesting books of the entire Bible. The Book of Esther. Why is it one of the more interesting books? Some may even say that they didn't even know it existed. Well, it's one of the most interesting books because, for one thing; it's acceptance into the Bible. What was the purpose of the Book? And, then there is the fact that this book is the one book that does not mention...at all
BUILD THAT WALL! BUILD THAT WALL!
*Yesterday we looked at the Book of Ezra. I said that originally Ezra and Nehemiah were one book. They were later separated by editors. Ezra/Nehemiah look at the exiles upon returning to Jerusalem from exile in Babylon. Ezra was concerned with the restoration of Mosaic law. Nehemiah is going to be primarily focused on rebuilding the wall around Jerusalem. "'Then I said to them, 'You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire.
WHO SAYS YOU CAN'T GO BACK HOME AGAIN? BUT, THERE'S A CATCH
*Good morning. Yesterday we sped through the Books of First and Second Chronicles. There is a lot of information in those two books (originally one book), but much of it is either found in other books that have been covered, or supplemental material. Today, we will take a quick look at the Books of Ezra and Nehemiah. As we go forward, I will take quicker looks at some books than I have before. Sometimes I will just focus on the general idea behind the book. We will cover the
I THINK I'VE HEARD THIS BEFORE!
*Today we begin looking into the exciting Books of the Chronicles. How often have you just set down, with a glass of tea, or coffee and read the Books of the Chronicles? Well, I'd venture to say that very few folks have ever done that. To be honest, we won't spend that much time with these books, and you will discover why. But, we will take a glance at them to see what they have to offer. As soon as you turn to the Book of I Chronicles you will quickly discover that the first
WELL, NOW WHAT?
*Good Monday morning. I pray that your week has started off well. Today we will finish the Books of the Kings. I hope you are enjoying this daily Bible Study, and if you are, pass along the word to others who may not have discovered it. It's a good way to read through the Bible, even though I don't cover every chapter and verse. Well, let's see what we discover in our work today. "At that time the officers of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon advanced on Jerusalem and laid siege
SHE LIED! I TELL YOU! SHE LIED!
*It's a beautiful Friday here in Madison. It's supposed to be a hot one though, so stay cool wherever you are. My son Zander is really enjoying time swimming on days like this one. I don't swim for two reasons: One, the world is not quite ready for the unveiling of this beach body, and two, I swim like a dying fish. It does look inviting on days like this one, however. Well, I'll keep my swimming trunks in the dresser for now and go back into our daily look at the scriptures.
CAN WE BLAME THE KING FOR THIS
*Good morning! Thanks for joining me on this beautiful Thursday morning. We have a lot of ground to cover today as we continue our journey through the Bible. Yesterday we looked at the beginning of the ministry of Elisha the prophet. Elisha's ministry was more about miracles than confrontations of kings. (compared to Elijah's) You may read about these miracles beginning with chapter four of II Kings. Early in the Book of II Kings we read of the healing of Naaman (Chapter 5) o
BALD AND PROUD
*Good morning! Yes, you read the title correctly. I could have probably come up with fifteen other titles, but I just had to use that one. Let's get right into today's study. "From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some youths came out of the town and jeered at him. 'Go on up, you baldhead!' they said. 'Go on up, you baldhead!' He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the Lord. Then two bears came out of t
AN OFFER YOU CAN'T REFUSE
*Good morning. Thanks for joining me today as we continue our journey through the Bible. If you are just joining in on this study, each day (Monday through Friday) we make our way through the Bible. We began with the Book of Genesis and will end with the Book of Revelation. We are now near the end of I Kings. Yesterday we looked at Elijah's encounter with the Lord at Mt. Sinai. (Sometimes referred to a Horeb. This depends on the tradition that gave us the account. (or writer)
THAT WAS THEN, THIS IS NOW
*Last Friday we looked at Elijah fleeing from Jezebel. Elijah was on his way to Mt. Horeb/Sinai. When he arrived at the mountain he spent the night in a cave. If you recall Sinai/Horeb was where the commandments were handed down to Moses and then to the people. Elijah traveled forty days and forty nights, which reminds us of the people's forty year journey in the wilderness and Moses' forty days and forty nights at the mountain. Elijah is retracing the footsteps back to the h
